Second Annual New York Surf Film Festival (NYSFF)

On September 23rd, WAVES for Development (WAVES)...

Along with other surf-related non profits, Waves of Health, the Best Day Foundation, Stoked Mentoring, the Surfrider Foundation, Surfer's Environmental Alliance and SurfAid International provided information on their programs at a kickoff event hosted by WAVES for the second annual New York Surf Film Festival (NYSFF). Surfing has inspired many individuals to take action in the areas of film, conservation, sustainability, education, health, and humanitarian aid and this event brought together representatives from each in a spirit of collaboration.

During the last day of the festival WAVES and the NYSFF hosted an 'unconference' meeting of the minds for filmmakers, nonprofits and surf businesses. The purpose was to explore collaboration between the interested parties to use surfing as a tool for positive social change. Round-table discussions included: the filmmakers of Whitewash, All Points South, Day of Light, and Surfing 50 States; surf nonprofits - WAVES for Development, Waves of Health and SurfAid International; and surf industry representation from OKOTO apparel and Hive Surf.
