Legends Ball: Honoring the Changemakers in the History of the Women's Intercultural Center

The Women's Intercultural Center celebrated its 17th anniversary in style with women who have been Change-Makers in the media, in Women’s history, and in their own lives.

The hostess of ceremonies for the event was Felipa Solis, former KTSM Channel 9 noon show host. Elena Araiza was the featured Center Participant. Food was catered by renowned chef Demetrious Giovas and entertainment provided by the participants of the Women’s Intercultural Center, and Veronica Carmona accompanied by Grupo Libertad.
Event Keynote speaker was Ms. Dolores Huerta, of the Dolores Huerta Foundation and community organizer/activist for over 50 years. She is known as the most outspoken human rights activists alive and as an activist she was arrested 24 times for non-violent protests. Ms. Huerta works to develop community leaders, advocates for the working poor, women and children. She travels daily speaking at universities and organizational forums on issues of social justice and public policy. Ms. Huerta is also the Co-founder, Secretary Treasurer /1st Vice Emeritus of the United Farm Workers of America and a Board Member of the Feminist Majority. She has received 73 honorary doctorates and has been awarded the American Civil Liberties Union Liberty Awards, Eleanor Roosevelt Humans Rights Award, Ellis Island Medal of Freedom, and James Smithson Award from the Smithsonian Institute, Kern County’s Woman of the Year by the California State legislature, Ohtli Award from the Mexican Government, Puffing Prize Award, among many others. She is one of Ms. Magazine’s “Women of the Year,” Ladies Home Journal’s 100 most important women of the 20th Century.” In 2009, Dosomething.org named her one of the top 10 Change-Makers in Women’s History.
