Haiti: Hunger and Hope Exhibition by World Renown Fashion Photographer Nigel Barker

The January 8th opening reception for Haiti: Hunger & Hope - an exhibit put together by world-renowned photographer Nigel Barker - was a huge success!

The exhibit held at the Milk Gallery in New York was a fundraiser for the charity Edeyo (Eh-day-yo) which means "Help Them". Over 800 people came out to support Nigel Barker and the Edeyo Foundation, including Fashion Designer Pamella Roland, Harper's Bazaar fashion editor Mary Alice Stephenson, Celebrity Stylist Philip Bloch, Model Kristy Hinze, Spike Lee, Seventeen editor Ann Shoket, Kelly Bensimon, and House's Lisa Edelstein.

Thanks to Nigel Barker Studios, Milk Studios, corporate sponsors, and generous attendees, almost $20,000 was raised in one night to benefit the children of the EdeyoSchool, École Communautaire du Bel-Air, in Haiti. The multi-media exhibit includes photos and a short documentary film from Nigel's June 2008 visit to Haiti, where he was so affected by the conditions under which the children of Bel-Air, Port au Prince were living and how much École du Bel-Air was doing to help them, he decided to organize an exhibit to raise awareness and funds for their benefit.

Though known for his work as a consummate fashion photographer, Nigel's focus on capturing the realities of life for "every day people in Port au Prince" displays his talent for communicating beauty in a variety of contexts other than fashion - in struggle, defiance, survival, play, work, and the smile of a child. The exhibit runs until January 13th at the Milk Gallery and all of Nigel's photos are for sale with proceeds benefiting the Edeyo Foundation.

Live music and ambiance was provided by DJ Cassidy and Top Haitian musician Bélo. Guests had the opportunity to enjoy exclusive auction items from sponsors such as Merkato 55, Louis Vuitton, and Sheriva Resort in Anguilla while sipping on Brazilian Rum Cuca Fresca. It was one great party for the children of Haiti!
