10/26/2010 - By New York, NY

Alzheimer's Association Rita Hayworth Gala

The 27th annual Alzheimer’s Association’s New York Rita Hayworth Gala was held on Tuesday, October 26th at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel, New York.

One of New York City’s most prestigious and successful fundraising events, the theme of the Rita Hayworth Gala this year was “Experience the Mystery,“ vibrant colors, seductive sounds and exotic tastes all speak to the allure of Eastern culture. Taking their cue from the masters of luxury and glamour, the Alzheimer’s Association Rita Hayworth Gala expanded the mystical opulence of the East right here in New York City. The evening featured entertainment by Grammy Award Winning singer Rosanne Cash. Over the course of Rosanne’s career she has released 12 albums, 11 No. 1 singles and has just published her long-awaited memoir.

This year, acclaimed fashion designer Naeem Khan and his wife jewelry designer Ranjana Khan, accepted the Rita Hayworth Award for their ongoing commitment to the Alzheimer’s Association vision of a world without Alzheimer’s. G. Marlyne Sexton received the Philanthropy Award for her generosity and support of the Association.

With the help of an enthusiastic group of supporters on board, this year’s Gala successfully raised over $1.5 million. Dedicated supporters include: corporate sponsor Rolex Watch USA and the following event chairs: Founder and General Chair Princess Yasmin Aga Khan; Gala Chair Michele Herbert; Gala Co-Chair Chele Upton Chiavacci; Underwriting Chair Allen Brill; Sponsor Chair Muffie Potter Aston; Auction Co-Chairs Donna Dixon Aykroyd, Somers Farkas, Susan Hess, Kathy Hilton and Anne Hearst McInerney; Décor Chair Nancy Corzine; Entertainment Chair Patty Smyth McEnroe; Journal Co-Chairs Nurit Kahane Haase and Liora Sternberg; Gift Bag Co-Chairs Alexandra Lebenthal; Robin Meltzer, Nicole Sexton and Felicia Taylor; and Corporate Committee Co-Chairs Dennis Basso and Mark Locks. Judith Leiber and Leviev were participating sponsors.

The evening, as always, was also a time to shine a light on the ongoing mystery of Alzheimer’s disease, which affects more than 5 million Americans and is the 7th leading cause of death in the U.S. With the continued support of our generous donors, the Alzheimer's Association works tirelessly to unravel the mysteries of this devastating disease, while providing individuals and families with critical guidance and resources.
